ON YOUR OWN is an opt-in, weekly, free, topical magazine about disaster survival. The first step in any survival effort is preparing ahead of need. We will cover topics to meet that need. Contents are listed below.
We have already talked about insurance. No matter what kind. They are all based upon the same concept. You wager that something disastrous will happen to you and the Insurance Company is betting it won’t. They can make money on this bet because they write the rules of the game. If they aren’t making money, they will change the rules.
In most cases, a reputable company will come through, but it may be days or weeks before that happens. FEMA may again become the efficient organization we once knew, but disasters will not wait for the gears of government to crank out their intended help on time and with efficiency.
The entire Disaster Preparedness Series books is designed to even the odds. We are betting that, given the proper knowledge and perhaps some training, you will survive most natural and man-made disasters.
We base the information offered to you on what has worked for us. All of our books are based upon our personal experience, except for Terrorism, as mentioned before. We do not say that ours is the only way; we say that our way has worked for us, and can work for you. It is all based upon self-reliance: ON YOUR OWN.
The Ezine, ON YOUR OWN, provides as much or more information as found in our books, on one topic at a time. The difference is that with a book you have the entire situation and preparation plan before you at the same time.
Right now, we offer condolences and sorrow for those who fail to prepare ahead of time, but we have little compassion for them. It is not as if they were not warned. Denial and postponement ( I’ll get to it later.) are mental aberrations that only strong will power can overcome. After the fact is a bit late.
Never mind that people choose not to think or dwell on the unpleasant. It’s time for ALL mature people to face up to the fact that disasters happen. Mother Nature picks the time and place without regard to humanity. Even more frustrating are the disasters made by our own kind.
To the argument that God will protect us, He already has. We were given the ingenuity and capability to take care of ourselves. We, as individuals, must demonstrate that capability.
I have made my argument and said enough. You are ON YOUR OWN. I’ll conclude with a story about a man in a flood:
A car came by and a friend asked if he wanted a ride to higher ground. He replied, “No. God will save me.”
As the water rose, he climbed up on the roof. “ A boat came by and hailed, “ Do you want to come on the boat?”,. He replied, “No, God will save me.”
As the water deepened a helicopter hovered and called out to him. “He waved and cried, “No, God will save me.”
Finally, the house was washed away and he drowned.
In Heaven he asked, “God, why didn’t you save me?”
God said, “ I sent a car, a boat, and a helicopter. Why didn’t you listen?”
