FAQ

Having Troubles With this website?

Not another bookstore !

Why not just go ahead and order from Amazon.com?

Why shop Here?

Ugh ! Books on disasters?

What’s the purpose of all these books?

If Peak Oil is such a big deal, why isn’t the government publicly discussing it?

What makes the Ritchies think they have all the answers

How can they write about what has never happened, as in Life After The Oil Crash, LATOC?

I don’t believe you two. I see articles all the time that say LATOC is a hoax.

Okay, where do I find out more about the Ritchies? How do I know what they write is valid?

Okay, I’m convinced. How to I find these books?

There are no linked pages to which Access Is Denied; there are No Pages Missing. The problem is digital- within the system. Some solutions :
Try again, in fact make several tries. You may have to leave the site and come in again to correct one of these problems. Sometimes, an error message will get into the cache memory and you may need to try another day or later. Be sure to mark the page or site as a favorite so you can return to it easily.
But DO NOT GIVE UP. If nothing else works, send an email to me and I will whip those wayward electrons back into place.
I have yet to discover why a link can disappear, but clicking the back button or refreshing a page may still work.

Yes, it is another bookstore, but a unique one at that: almost all of the books are the DIY,self-help kind. We do not write about what we have not personally experienced.

Sure, you can order from Amazon, among their 2,000,000 books, if you can find the book you want, and if you are not interested in the perks found on our web pages, like Ebooks, CD books, and the occasional freebie downloads that are sprinkled throughout these pages that are NOT available through the Amazon listing of our books.

There are also two blogs, On Your Own For Disasters, and Hard Times- Ritchie and an Ezine, ON YOUR OWN, that you are only going to find here. Check them out, they are free, or opt-in subscriptions and they are sprinkled with freebies, too.

Our motto, Books For People Who Want To Help Themselves, says it all.

Disasters are fact and part of everyday life. Sooner or later you will encounter a disaster, and it is a lot easier on you and your family if you have some knowledge of what can happen and how to cope with it. The knowledge and experience found in ANY of these books is worth a million dollars to you when you are faced with a given disaster situation.

We have lived most of our lives on the West Coast, where earthquakes are the major disaster event. However, Ralph was born in Florida and has lived in the West Indies, otherwise known as "Hurricane Alley". As a youngster he lived in Missouri and Iowa, just long enough to understand tornados and floods. Floods, wildfires, and drought are all too readily available in the West, as they are almost everywhere. Their two, forced evacuations are also part of the experience found in their writing. Fern's family survived in San Francisco during the earthquake of 1906.

Governments only react to a condition or situation after it happens. The media seems to follow government releases; it is easier and cheaper than searching for the real story. They will jump on a story after the fact, too. Without the Internet, what would you know about many things. Cover-up is a governmental byword. They all do it, whether conservative or liberal.

You don’t believe me? How about New Orleans.? That situation was known years beforehand. National Geographics magazine published a major article before Katrina, describing a blow by blow series of events that hit New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast. Since then, we have all watched the colossal mishandling by FEMA which only serves to validate the title of our ezine, ON YOUR OWN.

Why Shop Here?
This is the only place you can get ebook editions of our books ( at the present time )
You have access to the author for questions and help
If you want personal service, this is the place. Amazon and the likes try, but they are not personal- with orders coming in at hundreds per minute, they cannot be personal.

What about Peak Oil? That was described in a technical paper by an oil company geologist in the 1950's, twenty years before the first shoe hit the floor- in the 1970's the USA began the upward spiral of oil importing oil. This oil-rich country was no longer producing enough oil to meet its own consumption. It took until August of 2007 before any government agencies acknowledged the fact that we are facing a monumental cultural change without adequate oil to meet our demands. That was also the time that major media finally admitted the Peak Oil situation.

We have been preparing for this situation since that first paper on Peak Oil was published and we write from experience. The proof of our works is found in the nine books of the Energy Series.

No high level theory or guesswork, we write from personal experience, gathered over nearly eighty years. We are going to celebrate sixty years together, July 4th, 2008.

LATOC has happened before, only last time it was called The Great Depression, and there aren’t many people left who can write about the 1930's from personal experience. An oil dependent culture, without oil, will make the Great Depression look like a walk in the park. Later, in the 1970's, it was just called the : "gas shortage", That one was the signal event when our nation began importing oil rather then remaining an exporter. We were there for both of them.

All of the books were written from personal experience. In that respect, they are autobiographical. Whatever the topic, the Ritchies have survived the event or built a device from which they gained personal experience. They have built over a dozen Passive Solar Space Heaters, on several homes, over nearly 40 years, and each one is an improvement over the last one. Here is your chance to benefit from their experience.

They built and still use the Solar electric system described in two of their books, for nearly ten years, and so it goes.

Fern Ritchie spend eight years writing the Incredible Edibles books, validating what she wrote in her own 2000 square foot greenhouse and nearly an acre of garden space. Their book, Farming Is Easy. . ., describes and illustrates their experiences in rural living.

The entire Ceramics Series describes their experience at art as a livelihood in their own Studio.

There is an Author Bio page found in their web pages; and another About Us page, too.

There is a block of Links at the beginning of the Home Page; . Each Series Page will briefly describe those books and link to each book’s page- where that book is fully described and where it may be ordered in all available editions.

The books that are general reading are found on the Home Page.

New publications and events are also announced on the Home Page.

The Ezine, On Your Own, and both Blogs, On Your Own For Disasters, and Hard Times- Ritchie, are linked to the Home Page.
